VP Demand Creation Services, formerly known as Village Press (VP), has been approved for re-certification by SCS Global Services (SCS) to the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) Chain of Custody standard. “This is an important differentiator for our clients,” says President Dave Moore. “It helps our clients’ sustainability image and efforts.”
VP first received its FSC Chain of Custody certification in October 2009. As FSC states, Chain of Custody “traces the path of products from forests through the supply chain. To start, the harvesting, re-harvesting and irrigation in each forest follows very rigid and precise practices.” Then the pulp is traced through the papermaking process, again under very strict guidelines. VP takes ownership of a forest product from an FSC certified source as the company produces the printed product, before it reaches the end user. To become certified, an independent audit of VP was conducted by a qualified inspector from SCS Global Services. Certification covers the production and handling of printed material on paper stocks that are FSC 100%, FSC Mix, or FSC Recycled using the transfer system. VP is audited annually, and each FSC printing job is reviewed for precise management of the end product.
Use of the FSC logo guarantees that a printed product comes from responsible sources (forestry, papermaking, and print production) – environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable. The well-known logo conveys a commitment to sustainability – both by VP and by its customers who elect to use FSC paper stock on its printed materials. VP encourages all customers to ask about FSC availability.
“We are delighted to recertify VP Demand Creation Services under the FSC Chain of Custody standard,” says SCS Executive Vice President Robert J. Hrubes. “Through VP’s continuing efforts, its customers have the opportunity to select products derived from responsibly managed sources, making a difference for people and the planet.”

FSC is the most international standard for responsible forestry. FSC certified forests conserve biological diversity, water resources and crucial ecosystems. The FSC standard also upholds worker rights and supports economic prosperity in surrounding communities. FSC Chain of Custody certification ensures that certified wood products are tracked from forest to final product (and if applicable, that qualified recycled materials are used), adding legitimacy to the FSC claim throughout the supply chain.
