B Lab Names SCS Global Services Among 2013 Certified B Corp Honorees
SCS Global Services (SCS), a global leader in third-party environmental and sustainability certification, auditing, testing, and standards development, was one of 79 companies across 39 industries and 6 countries recognized for creating the most positive impact for their workers by the nonprofit B Lab, which released its 2013 ‘B Corp Best for the Workers List’.
“It is an honor to have been named as a ‘Best for Workers’ company,” said Linda Brown, SCS Senior Vice President. “This recognition provides independent acknowledgement of our efforts to create a supportive, motivating environment for our employees, who are among the most talented and dedicated individuals in the certification arena.”
Other companies earning this honor include fast-growing venture-backed e-commerce businesses like Etsy, well-known employee-owned brands including Dansko, King Arthur Flour, and New Belgium Brewing Company, and worker-cooperatives Cooperative Home Care Associates, Home Care Associates, and Namaste Solar.
“Our honorees are the companies people want to work for and invest in because they’ve proven they’re the best,” said Jay Coen Gilbert, co-founder of B Lab, the nonprofit organization that certifies B Corporations and governs the B Impact Assessment.
The ‘B Corp Best for Workers List’ honors businesses that earned an overall score in the top 10% of all Certified B Corporations for their positive impact on their workforce, as measured by the B Impact Assessment, used by more than 10,000 businesses to measure their impact on workers, community, and the environment. Its metrics include worker ownership, compensation and benefits, management and worker communication, training and education, work environment, and occupational health and safety.
Over 800 Certified B Corporations worldwide use the power of business for good and meet rigorous standards of overall social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
SCS Global Services has been providing global leadership in third-party environmental and sustainability certification, auditing, testing, and standards development for three decades. Its programs span a wide cross-section of industries, recognizing achievements in forestry, fishery management, green building, product manufacturing, food and agriculture, retail, and more. SCS has been conducting assessments under the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standard since its inception, both for responsibly managed forests and for wood and paper products made from FSC-certified wood. The chain-of-custody certification traces FSC-certified timber throughout the value chain, ensuring that it remains separated and distinct from non-certified wood in all stages of harvesting, transport and processing. www.scsglobalservices.com
