Job Overview
The Senior Technical Specialist, RSPO leads the North America technical team by conducting audits for domestic or international RSPO clients. This position is responsible for supporting RSPO standards and quality management systems, completing technical reviews, interpretation and implementation of standards, quality control of audits, prompt and professional customer service, and administrative and technical support to field auditors, clients, international affiliates, and colleagues. The Senior Technical Specialist serves as the primary point of both internal and external representation and liaison with respect to program implementation and operational matters, and provides technical and program guidance, consultation, and support. This position involved heavy travel up to 50% of the year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Project Management

  • Conduct onsite audits according to the standard and verification requirements as assigned
  • Perform required data checks for inventory data and data management systems
  • Participate in the development of risk assessment and verification plans
  • Complete audits by adhering to the agreed timeline, reporting deliverables, and professional requirements
  • Manage the documentation, communication, and closure of audit findings
  • Contribute to the development of verification report and verification statement
  • Communicate in a timely and professional manner with internal staff and external clients
  • Provide technical training of the SCC standard worldwide
  • Schedule audits and technical reviews

Auditing and Technical Expertise

  • Complete clear technical audit reports with increasing complexity (expansive scope, complex industry, standard), including applicable calculations, interpretation of testing results, and research
  • Conduct data analysis and modeling
  • Interpret results of analysis and prepare written reports

Quality and Program Development

  • Deliver verification services in accordance with SCS Corporate and Program Quality requirements, in addition to participation in periodic internal and external accreditation audits
  • Manage the SCS quality management system through maintenance of competency records including training log, completed calibration activities, and up to date knowledge of SCS program and external scheme requirements
  • Participate in RSPO meetings with scheme and accreditation body

Auditor Training and Management

  • Lead the recruitment and training of new and existing staff members
  • Lead the operational management of North American auditors and performance

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Natural Resources, Sustainability, Environmental Studies, or a related field and
  • 4+ years of professional experience in the palm oil sector including palm oil mill, refinery, crusher, oleochemical producer, biodiesel, food manufacturing, home and personal care products, animal feed and/or cosmetic sector; this also includes experience in HCV and HCS assessment, social auditing, or involvement in human rights activities
  • Experience with the third-party certification process
  • Demonstrable understanding of the latest version of RSPO Certification Systems
  • RSPO Supply Chain Lead Auditor certification course
  • ISO 9001 Lead Auditor course training
  • Ability and willingness to travel for audits up to 50% of the year
  • Fluency in English with experience that involves professional and technical verbal and written communication
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Proficient with business software including MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and the ability to learn, adapt, and utilize various internal and external database systems
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Initiative, good judgment, and ability to work independently under pressure in a changing environment
  • Professional fluency in another language such as Spanish, French, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Natural Resources, Sustainability, Environmental Studies, or a related field

Working Remotely
SCS is recruiting all open roles to be remote; allowing our employees the ability to work flexibly and allowing SCS as a company to diversify the experience and perspectives of our growing workforce. This is a home-office based role and may include travel with local, domestic, and/or international trips. Details will be clarified during the recruitment process.

Estimated Annual Salary
$61,102.08 - $83,017.87
