Job Overview
SCS' Greenhouse Gas Verification Program has been verifying carbon offsets since 2008 and to date has verified nearly 400 million tonnes of CO2e, providing GHG verification services to a wide array of industries including manufacturing, transportation, municipalities, and non-profit organizations. The GHG Verification Program draws upon SCS's established expertise to serve the global carbon market. SCS has been voted Best Verification Company several times. Buyers of SCS-verified offsets include several Fortune 100 companies and SCS is a recognized thought leader in the carbon and climate change communities.

The Senior Program Manager, GHG Forestry is responsible for the successful operation and smart growth of Carbon Offset Verification related to nature-based solutions, including forestry and land-use projects and programs.

The main areas of responsibility include program operations, financial management, and staff management. The Senior Program Manager also provides oversight of program quality and supports business development. This position collaborates with colleagues within the Climate division, including leadership, technical teams, marketing, and sales. Additionally, the Senior Program Manager may represent SCS at relevant industry meetings and tradeshows, as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Financial and Operations Management

  • Provide and facilitate cross-functional leadership for a suite of program services of more than $3.5M in revenue and a team of 15+ staff and contractors
  • Set and meet program revenue and profitability goals on a quarterly and annual basis
  • Scope, develop, and manage complex proposals and establish a consistent pricing structure
  • Allocate resources to maximize program profitability and ensure a solid work/life balance for staff
  • Develop and document procedures to ensure efficient and compliant program operations

Business Development

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key clients
  • Scope and prepare proposals for new projects
  • Represent program and promote services at trade shows, conferences, and industry events
  • Identify and develop opportunities to expand services into new markets
  • Coordinate and support international business development efforts

Program Quality

  • Oversee program compliance with corporate quality system, in coordination with QA and Technical Managers
  • Ensure consistent interpretation and application of standards
  • Maintain program quality through continual review process including internal and external audit processes
  • Oversee investigation of complaints involving accreditation body
  • Adhere to and enforce all quality and code of conduct standards

Staff Management

  • Develop staffing plan; recruit, hire, and train program staff and subcontractors
  • Establish and communicate performance expectations and objectives
  • Conduct formal and informal performance reviews, provide feedback, and address performance issues
  • Assign and oversee daily, quarterly, and annual workflow for projects, including complex, interdisciplinary projects and programs spanning more than 6 months
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and respectful work environment
  • Develop and implement systems to monitor and evaluate staff technical proficiency

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Financial Management, or a related field and
  • 5+ years of professional experience in a related field and
  • 2+ years of experience in program management with a focus on program operations
  • Complete fluency in English with work experience that involves professional written and verbal communication
  • Strong leadership, organization, and prioritization skills
  • Proficient with business software including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Sales CRM systems
  • Strong customer service and teamwork orientation
  • Initiative, good judgment, and ability to work independently under pressure in a changing environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • ARB-accredited Lead Verifier for the Compliance Offset Protocol—US Forest Projects
  • California Registered Professional Forester or Certified Forester
  • Quantitative skills with an emphasis on business data analytics
  • Experience and strong knowledge within the environmental sustainability industry, specifically third-party certification
  • Established network in the carbon offset community
  • Knowledge and skills in community engagement
  • Foreign language skills (Spanish and Portuguese are especially helpful)
  • Ability to lead an audit
  • Domestic or international forestry/natural resource experience
  • International travel experience

Working Remotely
SCS is recruiting all open roles to be remote; allowing our employees the ability to work flexibly and allowing SCS as a company to diversify the experience and perspectives of our growing workforce. This is a home-office based role and may include travel with local, domestic, and/or international trips. Details will be clarified during the recruitment process.

Estimated Annual Salary
$95,472.00 - $135,180.71
