Job Overview
The Director, Corporate Communications and Public Relations is responsible for driving excellence in corporate communications and public relations, to support SCS' reputation as an industry leader and help expand overall awareness of SCS Global Services,?its innovations in?the field of sustainability, and its many service?offerings. This position will provide comprehensive writing and public relations leadership and services for the company, as well as coordination with our subsidiaries.

The main responsibilities of this role include providing exceptional editorial support for technical and non-technical company documents, championing the company's public image and thought leadership, and securing effective and positive media coverage. This position reports to the Vice President of Corporate Marketing and works closely with the sales, marketing, executive, and program management teams.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional, preferably with experience in both journalism and media relations, a superb writer who knows how to translate scientific and technical information into compelling PR content of all kinds, a skilled editor, and a hands-on self-starter who is comfortable working with all types of digital, print, and broadcast media channels.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Corporate Communications

  • Develop or refresh existing guidelines for written and recorded corporate communications to convey consistent, high-quality information aligned with the company’s neutral third-party, science-driven stance and brand “voice,” in coordination with marketing team leadership
  • Oversee development of online content and thought leadership materials to ensure consistency of neutral and science-based tone and perspective
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction on external and internal communications strategy and content
  • Provide editorial support and guidance to program managers, directors, and staff responsible for the development of client- and public-facing written and recorded materials
  • Review company communication policies and recommend updates as appropriate

Public Relations

  • Work in concert with the marketing leadership team and other company leaders to build and drive an effective company public relations strategy
  • Generate compelling content across multiple media modes (e.g., articles, press releases, white papers, reports, videos) and platforms (e.g., television, radio, website, social media, podcasts, email)
  • Provide editorial feedback for content developed by other SCS marketing and communications staff, and for written materials from other key SCS staff when requested
  • Develop a public relations content calendar aligned with SCS marketing/corporate goals and campaigns, and take responsibility for tactical execution
  • Develop and nurture key media relationships, spearhead outreach, and build a plan to gain more exposure for thought leadership content developed at SCS
  • Monitor media trends and competitive landscape in the sustainability space and report internally
  • Reinforce SCS clients’ PR initiatives to promote their SCS-certified accomplishments, building relationships with key SCS clients to explore added opportunities to generate positive PR
  • Establish an SCS “speaker’s bureau” by identifying those individuals most qualified to speak on behalf of the company, especially high-level thought leaders who can be pitched for interviews, speaking opportunities, and quotes
  • Provide media training, coaching, and messaging support to company spokespeople
  • Manage publicity for live events (e.g., speaking opportunities, tradeshows, special events, webinars)
  • Coordinate with SCS digital marketing team to build and sustain successful SCS social media presence
  • Manage PR-related vendors and contractors
  • Act as a point person and be a key member of our crisis communications team
  • Monitor, track, and support award submissions
  • Track and report PR analytics

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or related field and
  • 15+ years of related professional experience
  • Highly versatile and proficient writing skills, capable of targeting both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Exceptional editing skills
  • Demonstrated ability in science and sustainability-related PR and communications
  • Strong media relationships in SCS-related fields
  • Successful track record of pitching and placing stories
  • Well-developed professional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to adjust communication style appropriately for various audiences
  • Complete fluency in English in written and oral communication
  • Proficient with business software including Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Strong customer service and teamwork orientation
  • Self-starter with good judgment and strong organization, prioritization, planning, and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently under pressure and manage multiple projects and priorities in a highly dynamic environment

Working Remotely
SCS is recruiting all open roles to be remote; allowing our employees the ability to work flexibly and allowing SCS as a company to diversify the experience and perspectives of our growing workforce. This is a home-office based role and may include travel with local, domestic, and/or international trips. Details will be clarified during the recruitment process.

Estimated Annual Salary
$95,472.00 - $135,180.71
