Job Overview
The Technical Manager, GHG Inventory Verification is responsible for managing the quality and technical rigor of the program's daily operations for initiatives related to entity-level GHG inventories under both voluntary and regulatory reporting schemes. Key responsibilities include auditing, technical program operations, key client management, quality management, business development, peer training and mentoring, and staff oversight. The Technical Manager is expected to be a credentialed practitioner who contributes to the long-term success of the Greenhouse Gas Inventory Verification Program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Technical Management

  • Serve as the lead technical auditor on large, complex audits
  • Conduct on-site and desk audits in conformance with pertinent protocols
  • Prepare and submit audit reports within established timelines
  • Support technical staff in review of complex issues and ensure consistency of interpretation among staff and contractors
  • Establish staff and contractor qualifications and ensure ongoing compliance with auditor requirements
  • Develop and submit comments on normative standards or other documents
  • Lead or support program meetings, calibration activities, and trainings

Program Operations

  • Responsible for recruitment and hiring of staff or contractors to ensure sufficient operational capacity
  • Support and provide initial and ongoing training for program staff
  • Evaluate and calibrate staff and contractor performance and provide feedback
  • Delegate audit assignments and internal responsibilities of auditing team
  • Develop and document procedures to ensure efficient and complaint program operations
  • Develop work instructions, internal guidance, and staff training material
  • Serve as a technical resource to the program and provide mentorship and training to other team members
  • Provide coaching on methods and tools to ensure the accuracy of work, as well as organization policies and procedures for quality assurance

Key Client Management

  • Oversee the audit process with key clients and audit team members
  • Ensure a high level of customer service and client satisfaction
  • Conduct technical report reviews generated by others
  • Foster collaboration amongst team members, including providing opportunities for all group members to contribute and to provide constructive feedback, when appropriate; manage program complaints and investigations
  • Provide suggestions to team managers and operations and/or create tools and systems for improvements in client service delivery systems and internal and external processes to increase audit quality and client satisfaction; manage client adverse actions, appeals, mediation, and compliance review
  • Tailor communication (e.g., content, style, and medium) to diverse audiences; alter communication approach when needed to effectively deliver message in sensitive situations
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable protocols and standards

Business Development and Strategy

  • Assist with the scoping and preparation of proposals
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key clients
  • Identify and develop opportunities to expand services into new markets

Program Quality and Development

  • Develop and maintain program procedures and documents in compliance with quality system guidelines
  • Develop and implement procedures to increase quality and efficiency of audit and certification services
  • Develop work instructions, internal guidance, and staff training materials
  • Lead internal and external audit process and ensure compliance issues are addressed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in GHG Accounting, Data Science, or a relevant field and
  • 5+ years of professional experience in a related field
  • Experience in GHG Emissions, energy, sustainability, or other applicable sector
  • Excellent technical writing, observation, and data management skills
  • Strong communication abilities and demonstrated abilities in critical analysis
  • Exceptional quantitative and critical thinking skills for evaluating complex data sets
  • Ability to complete time-sensitive projects and to provide realistic deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Access
  • Initiative and ability to work independently, responsive and adaptive to team environment
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or higher in GHG Accounting, Data Science, or a relevant scientific field
  • CARB-accredited MRR Lead Verifier
  • Experience as a verifier for greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory verifications
  • Advanced proficiency and experience using data management systems
  • Multilingual

Working Remotely
SCS is recruiting all open roles to be remote; allowing our employees the ability to work flexibly and allowing SCS as a company to diversify the experience and perspectives of our growing workforce. This is a home-office based role and may include travel with local, domestic, and/or international trips. Details will be clarified during the recruitment process.

Estimated Annual Salary
$80,000 - $100,000
