2023 International Carbon Footprint Innovation and Development Forum and International Trade Development Forum

On August 8, the 4nd International Carbon Footprint Innovation and Development Forum and the 2023 International Trade Development Forum were held at Beijing International Hotel. The forum was hosted by the National Innovation Alliance with Carbon Footprint, strongly supported by the China Forest Products Industry Association, and organized by Beijing Green Forest Certification Co., Ltd., Beijing Green Onuo Technical Service Co., Ltd., SCS Global of the United States, and EPH of the German Institute of Wood Science. In the morning, the main venue of the "300nd International Carbon Foot Innovation and Development Forum" was attended by more than 2023 guests from home and abroad. In the afternoon, there will be "2023 International Trade Development Forum - Forest Products Industry Sub-session" and "150 International Trade Development Forum - Bioenergy and Sustainable Development Sub-session". Industry experts and more than <> entrepreneurs from China and Southeast Asia participated in the Bioenergy and Sustainable Development Branch, which was chaired by Liu Shutong, founder and CEO of Daolan Environmental Energy.

In the afternoon "Bioenergy and Sustainable Development Session", Matthew Rudolf, vice president of SCS Global Services, gave a detailed introduction on bioenergy policy and market trends in the United States. He began with an overview of SCS's responsible biofuels program. It also focuses on the detailed explanation of the US Renewable Fuel Standard II (RFS2). In particular, reference was made to the new rules issued by RFS2023 in June 6, which impose strict requirements on the traceability of UCOs under the segregated food waste program, and raw material collectors must register with the EPA and provide appropriate information. Finally, he also gave a detailed interpretation of the California Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) and explained the current market policy on bioenergy in the United States.

The first half of 2023 is a year when the global biodiesel market ends its hot rise and gradually returns to rationality. Li Zhe, general manager of Argent Energy (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., made a detailed analysis of the current European biodiesel market. He said that in the first half of the year, the entire firewood market is now in a volatile downward trend; There are many uncertainties in the second half of the year, and it is necessary to focus on European firewood stocks, European energy prices such as fuel oil, electricity and other related industries in Europe. At the same time, he also made a detailed interpretation of the current SAF production pathway.

Mr. Liu Yaoming, President of the Bioenergy Branch of the China Private Science and Technology Promotion Association, gave an in-depth interpretation of the current situation and future development of China's UCO industry market. He said that in recent years, EU countries have been the main destination countries for China's UCO exports, accounting for 61% of China's total exports since data was available. He also said that in the next few years, with the increase in renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel production capacity in the US and EU markets, it will attract a large number of waste raw materials and continue to promote the development of raw materials.

The biodiesel industry needs to meet the certification needs to enter the EU market, in addition to the well-known ISCC international sustainability and carbon certification, which other certifications are certified by the EU? Robert Earley, Technical Manager of SCS Global RSB, gave a detailed introduction to RSB certification, including its background, development status and future prospects, as well as the basic process, principles and standard technical requirements of RSB RSB certification. The future outlook for RSB includes certification of renewable hydrogen in addition to certification of renewable liquid and gaseous fuels of biological origin.

In view of the latest requirements of ISCC, Ms. He Chaorui, Deputy General Manager of Beijing Lvlin Certification Co., Ltd., gave a detailed interpretation at the meeting, including the distinction between the high-risk levels of the collection enterprises, what direct changes will occur after upgrading to the high-risk level, and the matters that enterprises need to pay attention to in the process of using certificates.

Ms. Qiuxia Dun, ISCC Project Manager of Beijing Lvlin Certification Co., Ltd., gave a detailed explanation on the requirements for non-biotic refuels (RFBNOs). The EU Renewable Energy Directive RED II: Renewable Energy Directive (EU) 2018/2001 added provisions for non-biomass derived renewable fuels (RNFBOs) and recycled carbon fuels (RCFs) and set targets for renewable energy use by 2030. Renewable liquid and gaseous transport fuels of non-biological origin (RNFBOs) refer to liquid or gaseous fuels used in the transport sector other than biofuels or biogas, whose energy is derived from renewable resources other than biomass. Renewable carbon fuels (RCF) refer to liquid and gaseous fuels that are not suitable for material recovery produced from liquid or solid waste streams of non-renewable sources in accordance with Article 2008 of Directive 98/4/EC, or waste treatment gases and exhaust gases from non-renewable sources that are unavoidable and unintentionally generated during the production of industrial installations. Ms. Qiuxia gave a detailed introduction to the scope of certification, traceability requirements, chain of custody requirements, GHG calculation, materials to be prepared and the certification process.

Finally, in the guest dialogue session, the first group of guests were: Matthew Rudolf, Vice President of International Business of SCS Global Services, Wang Ke, General Manager of Zhongli Inspection Co., Ltd., Liu Yaoming, President of Bioenergy Branch of China Private Science and Technology Promotion Association, Li Zhe, General Manager of Argent Energy Shanghai Co., Ltd., and Robert Earley, Technical Manager of SCS Global Services. The guests expressed their unique views on the current international carbon emission reduction policies and problems faced by land transportation, maritime transport and aviation at home and abroad, how to solve the mismatch between supply and demand of biofuel raw materials, and the prospects for sustainable bioenergy development in the future.

The second group of sharing guests were: Rong Hao, chairman of Shijiazhuang Green Ring New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., Wang Zhixiang, vice president of the supply chain development department of Wusan Zhongda Group Co., Ltd., Xiao Guochen, chairman of Huaibei Xinxing Huangyuan New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., Ye Bin, chairman of Sichuan Jinshang Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., and Shen Changzhi, chairman of Jiangsu Shuangshen Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. As representatives of outstanding entrepreneurs in the industry, they had in-depth discussions on the development of the waste oil and fat industry, how enterprises can avoid risks, and achieve benign and healthy development of enterprises. The scene generated an enthusiastic response. This meeting was brought to a climax.
