SCS Global Services (SCS) announced today that Dave Bubser, a world-renowned forest resource management and certification expert, has joined the company as its new Vice President of Forestry Services. Bubser now oversees international business for SCS’ forest-based certification programs in the company’s Natural Resources division, providing strategic and operational guidance and support to Program Directors, and focusing on client relations, sales and marketing, auditing key accounts, and special projects.
“Dave is remarkably talented, and uniquely qualified to take on the role of overseeing our international forestry certification business,” said Dr. Stanley Rhodes, SCS President. “Our certification clients around the world will appreciate his depth of understanding, passion, and attention to detail.”
Prior to joining SCS, Bubser spent 17 years with the Rainforest Alliance, most recently overseeing all certification and assurance activities in the US and Canada, as well as global carbon verification services. He served on the global management team for Rainforest Alliance’s certification division and led business planning initiatives for chain of custody and carbon service areas, as well as the integration of Canada and US operations. Dave also guided the launch of the Appalachian Woodlands Alliance, a collaboration of businesses, government and non-profit organizations committed to promoting sustainable forest management on family forests.
Before entering the forest certification sector, Bubser was engaged in various forest management positions in the Lake States and Inland Northwest regions of the US, primarily on tribal lands. His applied forestry experience includes all aspects of on-the-ground forest management with particular emphasis on silviculture, harvest design and administration. Dave earned his B.S. Forest Resource Management from the University of Idaho in 1983.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside Dave over the years, both on joint certification projects that involved both SCS and Rainforest Alliance, and in Forest Stewardship Council® standards setting work groups,” said Dr. Robert J. Hrubes, SCS Executive Vice President Emeritus, and former head of SCS forestry operations. “In his new position, he will continue to be a major force in helping to advance the adoption of responsible forestry practices around the globe.”
