SCS Global Services (SCS) announced its certification of rubber flooring and tread, vinyl tile and tread, and wall base products manufactured by the Roppe Corporation to the Sustainability Assessment Standard for Resilient Flooring (NSF/ANSI 332). All of Roppe's products that are certified by SCS under the industry-recognized FloorScore® standard for indoor air quality have earned NSF/ANSI 332 certification, and now qualify for the new U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) purchasing requirement (GSA Facilities Standards for the Public Buildings Service, P100), effective this year.

Among the products certified was Tuflex® recycled rubber tile, which earned 'Silver' level recognition, and other recognized brands including Designer's Choice® rubber tile, Fiesta® rubber tile and tread, and SafeTcork® solid vinyl tile.

"NSF/ANSI 332 establishes a consistent and transparent method for evaluating resilient flooring products," said Stowe Hartridge-Beam, Managing Director of Environmental Certification Services for SCS, "This certification attests to Roppe's commitment to reduce the environmental and social impacts of flooring manufacturing and provide concrete contributions to communities and the environment."

The NSF/ANSI 332 standard is used to assess the environmental performance and sustainability attributes of resilient flooring products, then track changes over time to the sustainability profiles of these products. Products are measured in five key areas: product design, manufacturing, long-term value, corporate governance and innovation, and scored on a 100-point scale. Depending on the number of points earned, products may be recognized at the Conformant, Silver, Gold and Platinum levels.

"In order to be certified by SCS under NSF/ANSI 332, we developed a systematic process approach out of what once were general goals and guidelines," said Christopher Iannantuono, Manager – Quality Assurance for Roppe Holding Company, which owns Roppe Corp. "Our materials, formulae, suppliers, and energy inventory are all cleaner, more organized and complete as a result."

NSF/ANSI 332 certification is intended to help specifiers and purchasers separate verified sustainable claims from "green" hype when selecting resilient flooring products. Starting in 2013, GSA requires all resilient flooring products purchased and installed for GSA leased and owned buildings to achieve "Conformant" level certification or higher as defined in the standard.
