FSC® Honors Responsible Forestry Champions During Greenbuild

Five of the Award Winners Certified by SCS Global Services

SCS Global Services (SCS) congratulates recipients of the 2016 Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) Leadership Awards, which “recognize excellence in the use of FSC certified products and commitment to responsible forest management.” Among this year’s award recipients are five organizations certified to FSC standards by SCS:

  • Humboldt Redwood Company and Mendocino Redwood Company was honored by FSC as "first to bring FSC certification to California’s iconic redwood region to restore severely degraded forestlands after years of mismanagement and for ongoing commitment to responsible management."
  • Roseburg Forest Products was recognized by FSC as  "one of the longest continually certified companies in the US, and for providing a continuous supply of FSC certified sheet goods to the green building marketplace."
  • HP Inc., along with International Paper, Kimberly-Clark, McDonald’s, Procter & Gamble, Williams-Sonoma, Inc., World Wildlife Fund, and Zeus Jones, were given the FSC award for "working in partnership ... to help FSC launch its first major consumer engagement campaign in the United States."
  • Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was honored by FSC for its "long-term dedication to responsible forest management on state forest lands," including the world’s largest group certificate involving more than 38,000 family woodland owners and 2.5 million acres of forest.

FSC is the world’s premier responsible forestry certification program, promoting environmentally sound, socially beneficial, and economically prosperous management of the world’s forests. The FSC recognized the 2016 award winners during Greenbuild 2016 at the FSC Leadership Awards ceremony on October 5th at the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles. Winners were selected by a jury panel of professionals, FSC staff, and board members.

“The FSC Leadership Awards recognize organizations and people who really distinguish themselves in efforts to promote responsible forest management,” said Corey Brinkema, president of the Forest Stewardship Council US. “The FSC leaders show that with a bit of creativity and dedication, it’s possible to make a big difference for our forests, wildlife and communities.”

“We hope their achievements will inspire others across the globe to take similar steps toward a more sustainable future,” said Dr. Robert J. Hrubes, SCS Executive Vice President.
