Centrally located in the heart of the Bay Area, the modern high-rise campus features panoramic views of San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge, the Marin Headlands, and the East Bay, with easy access to walking, running and bicycling trails stretching along the Bay, and nearby docks to launch kayaks, wind-surfers and other water craft. Other employee resources include a fitness center, bocce ball, collaboration lounge, chair massage and car detailing services, with shuttle access to the BART transportation system.
SCS provides professional development opportunities through regular in-house trainings. In addition, staff may be invited to participate in external webinars and tradeshows, and offered the opportunity to enroll in external training and education seminars. Informally, staff gather frequently to learn from their peers about important issues and program developments. Recent topics include: a life cycle assessment of a Northern California forest, sustainable fisheries, ergonomics, and analysis of the latest IPCC report on climate change.
SCS provides monthly opportunities for interaction among our amazing staff, celebrating our shared interests in health and sustainability. Highlights include Earth Day, Bike to Work Month, Summer Solstice Picnic, Wellness Month, softball league, and a home-grown tomato taste test. Each first Friday of the month, employees of all levels meet in the break room for a family style lunch.
SCS' corporate culture reflects the mission of the company, provides opportunities for interaction within our amazing staff, and balances the very serious work of the organization with some serious fun.
Brown Bag Lunches – Staff gather informally during lunch to learn from their peers about important issues and program developments. Recent topics have included: a life cycle assessment of a Northern California forest, sustainable fisheries, FSC Chain of Custody, forestry verification techniques, and technology to reduce travel.
Monthly Events – SCS employees gather for events including a Valentine’s Day Chocolate Raffle, Summer Solstice Picnic, Wine & Cheese Tasting, a Halloween costume party, and a home-grown tomato taste test judged by the CEO and the Director of Food and Agricultural Testing. Offsite activities include a “Pool Party” at the local pool hall, bowling, bocce, foosball, and holiday party at the end of the year. On First Fridays in the summer, employees bring seasonal ingredients to co-create delicious salad bars.
Additional Activities – SCS celebrates Earth Day Week, Bike to Work Month, and Wellness Month. Stress relief resources include a private meditation room equipped with yoga equipment, walking trails along the San Francisco Bay, onsite chair massages, and a gym with a basketball court, classes, cardio and weight machines.
