After a vesting period of two months, all SCS employees are eligible for enrollment in our health plan. In 2012, SCS covered 95% of heath insurance premiums for medical, dental, and vision coverage, including life insurance and long-term disability, as well as 20% for enrolled dependents.
SCS is committed to providing professional development opportunities. In 2012, over 40% of SCS employees received additional professional training and approximately 10% of SCS employees were promoted internally.
After 6 months, employees are eligible to participate in the company’s 401(k) and annual profit sharing plan. Employees currently receive a 50% company match up to the maximum contribution allowed by law. Annual discretionary bonuses are awarded based on company and individual performance.
SCS employees receive eight paid holidays plus one floating holiday annually. In addition, all employees are eligible for vacation leave, which increases incrementally based on years of employment, starting with an annual accrual of three weeks of vacation and one week of sick leave.

Brown Bag Lunches – Staff gather informally during lunch to learn from their peers about important issues and program developments. Recent topics have included: a life cycle assessment of a Northern California forest, sustainable fisheries, FSC Chain of Custody, forestry verification techniques, and technology to reduce travel.
Monthly Events – SCS employees gather for events including a Valentine’s Day Chocolate Raffle, Summer Solstice Picnic, Wine & Cheese Tasting, a Halloween costume party, and a home-grown tomato taste test judged by the CEO and the Director of Food and Agricultural Testing. Offsite activities include a “Pool Party” at the local pool hall, bowling, bocce, foosball, and holiday party at the end of the year. On First Fridays in the summer, employees bring seasonal ingredients to co-create delicious salad bars.
Additional Activities - SCS celebrates Earth Day Week, Bike to Work Month, and Wellness Month. Stress relief resources include a private meditation room equipped with yoga equipment, walking trails along the San Francisco Bay, onsite chair massages, and a gym with a basketball court, classes, cardio and weight machines.
